Girls Slowpitch Softball

Keeping softball fun — especially in the early stages of youth participation — is the primary concern of our program. We believe in participation for all, positive competition, and building character. We teach fundamentals and traditions of the game, champion sportsmanship, and encourage family and community support.

Pitch Perfect (Machine Pitch) Softball (For Girls, Ages 7-9)
Formerly called Coach Pitch Division. Start your young player out right by learning the fundamentals of softball, with a manual pitching machine providing consistent pitching to help develop hitting skills. Girls will learn other essential skills such as throwing, catching, and fielding. Rally Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, from 7-7:50 p.m. in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (1001 Ridge Street).  Enter through the door at the end of the ramp on Plain Street.  At Rally Day, parents and players will meet their coach, league supervisor and receive information regarding the league. League practices may begin in April, games run May through the beginning of July.

Junior Slowpitch Softball (For Girls, Ages 10-12)
The format allows for more contact at the plate, more action in the field, and greater development of defensive skills. The program includes six weeks of preseason practices followed by a 12-game schedule and a single-elimination tournament.  Rally Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, from 12-12:50 p.m. in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (1001 Ridge Street).  Enter through the door at the end of the ramp on Plain Street.  At Rally Day, parents and players will meet their coach, league supervisor and receive information regarding the league.  League practices may begin end of March, games run May through the beginning of July.

Senior Slowpitch Softball (For Girls, Ages 13-17)
Players continue to enjoy the plentiful action in the field, with healthy competition and camaraderie. The program includes six weeks of preseason practices followed by a 12-game schedule and a single-elimination tournament.  Rally Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, from 12-12:50 p.m. in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (1001 Ridge Street).  Enter through the door at the end of the ramp on Plain Street.  At Rally Day, parents and players will meet their coach, league supervisor and receive information regarding the league. League practices may begin end of March, games run May through the beginning of July. (18-year-old high school students will be accepted.)

 

Fall Ball

Join us for Fall Junior & Senior Softball, as we prepare players for next season. Our emphasis will be on instruction and constructive competition as players look to take their games to the next level. Slowpitch leagues will be determined by player interest. If interested, please call the Park Office at 219-326-9600. Practices potentially begin in August, games begin in September and the season ends mid-October. Fall Ball is for players ages 9-16 years of age as of April 30,2024.

 

The cost is $80 for the first child and $70 for each additional child in the same household for Pitch Perfect, Junior and Senior Girls Leagues.  

Youth Sports Registrations begin on January 24 and 26 at the Civic Auditorium from 6-7:30 p.m. Beginning Friday, January 27, we will be offering multiple options for registration:

Zero Tolerance Policy for Sports Officials/Park Personnel Abuse

Make checks payable to the La Porte Park and Recreation Department. Visa/Master Card accepted. Please bring the participant's birth certificate along with the appropriate registration fee. Financial assistance is available for qualifying families.

 

Preseason Clinics

All participants are encouraged to attend the preseason clinics scheduled for Saturdays, March 2, 9 and 16 at the La Porte High School field house (enter through door #23). The clinics will feature instruction in the fundamentals and allow players to knock off the "rust" from the winter. The clinics run from 12-12:50 p.m. for all Slowpitch divisions.
