Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed all of the WinterFest 2022 events!  Here is a little video showing some of the fun that was held throughout the weekend.

The annual WinterFest, organized by the La Porte Park and Recreation Department, returns January 28-30, 2022! 

We hope the community joins us in our annual WinterFest event.  It will look and feel a little different than in the past; however, there are events available for everyone.  We hope you enjoy this blast of winter fun!  

Friday, January 28

Ice Sculpturing Demonstrations will be held from 4 -7 p.m. in downtown La Porte at the 618 Plaza on Lincolnway.  Sponsored by: New Age Telecom, Qubit Networks, NIPSCO , La Porte Seamless Gutter, PrimeMD, Phoenix Glass Services Inc. and Cashmer Inc.

Ice, ice, baby! Our downtown will transform into a frozen art gallery at Plaza 618. Enjoy the creative designs as you peruse the offerings at local shops, enjoy a hearty meal at one of the local restaurants and enjoy some time on this year's ice skating rink!  

Saturday, January 29

Ice Fishing Derby - Supporting De Camp Band of Brothers will be held from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. on Pine Lake.  Registration begins at 5 a.m. at 1110 Lakeside Street (Blue Heron Inn).

Haul in that big fish or just recall the one that got away!  Put on your thermal underwear, cast those lines, compete for prizes and share your stories at The Blue Heron after the derby. Fee is $40.

Snowball Softball Coed Tournament will be held throughout the day at Lions Field in Soldiers Memorial Park beginning at 9 a.m.

Dashing through the snow, turning double plays!  Get your team together for our version of the "hot stove" league.  Double-elimination tournament; limited to the first eight teams to register.  Pre-registration required.  Team enty fee $185.   Deadline to enter is Friday, January 21.

WinterFest Snowball Softball Coed Tournament Rules

Family Yoga Class is a FREE class being held in the lower level of the Civic Auditorium (1001 Ridge Street) at 10 a.m.  Enter through the door at the end of the ramp on Plain Street.

Move those winter blahs away!   Come and join certified instructor Christie Trksak for a winter-themed class!  This FREE class is open to families with children between the ages of 2-10.  Participants will explore yoga with poses, breathing and mindfulness to encourage strength, balance, peace and connection.

Snowman Contest will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kesling Park Walking Trail.  This is a FREE event; however, participants will need to register.

Do you want to build a snowman, snowwoman or snow creature? During WinterFest, we will be judging for the best in three categories: Individual Builder - 12 & under; Individual Builder - 13 & Over; and Family/Group (up to 6 builders). There will even be a Best in SNOW!   There is no fee to enter but you must complete an entry form which is available on the website or Park Office.  Deadline to enter is Wednesday, January 26.

Glow in the Dark Scavenger Hunt will be held at 5 p.m. at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater in Fox Park.  No registration is necessary for this FREE event.

Join us for a breath of fresh air while combing the park for glow in the dark clues to complete your assigned riddle.  The park will be used as a template for glow in the dark letters when combined will allow you to successfully complete your challenge.  Wear your boots, bundle up and bring your flashlight for the return of this fun WinterFest event!

Sunday, January 30

 Horse Drawn Wagon Rides will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Cummings Lodge in Soldiers Memorial Park.  This event is FREE to the public.  Sponsored by:  Huber's Marine

Jingle, jingle, jingle.  Take a brisk ride through the beauty of wintry nature while enjoying the majesty of the equine.  After a trot through Soldiers Memorial Park, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace.
