T-Ball

Keeping sports fun — especially in the early stages of youth participation — is the primary concern of our programs. We believe in participation for all, positive competition, and building character. We teach fundamentals and traditions of the game, champion sportsmanship, and encourage family and community support.

Our T-Ball program (for boys and girls, ages 5-6 as of April 30, 2021) offers instruction in the basic fundamentals used in baseball and softball, such as hitting, fielding, game situations, and base running. The program runs for six weeks, June 7-July 15, for two nights per week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday). The first week will consist of two nights with an hour-long practice each night. The next five weeks will include two nights of a half-hour practice followed by a game. We will have umpires on each diamond, helping with rules and keeping a good pace to the game. Volunteer coaches are needed. A soft safety ball will be used. Players need to furnish their own gloves.

Youth Sports Registrations begin on January 19.  Our in-person registration nights will not be held due to restrictions in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. We will be offering three different options for registration:

• ON-LINE through League Lineup

• BY PHONE with a credit card at 219-326-9600 during regular office hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday);

• AT THE PARK OFFICE (250 Pine Lake Avenue) during regular hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday). Cash/checks/credit cards accepted.

Cost is $50 for the first child and $40 for each additional child in the same household.  An additional $20 will be added to the registration fee after April 30.

Make checks payable to the La Porte Park and Recreation Department. Visa/Master Card accepted. Please bring the participant's birth certificate along with the appropriate registration fee. Financial assistance is available for qualifying families.

Parents will receive a phone call in mid-May from their coach with practice information.  Game schedules will be distributed at the first practice.
